Mount Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside Asia. Its 6,962 meters massif stands above the neighbouring peaks in the Central Andes of Mendoza, Argentina. Take a closer look at Aconcagua’s legendary South Face and get a taste of the cosmopolitan world of high altitude mountaineering, hiking with our summit-bound expeditions during four days. Visit Confluencia (first camp on the Normal route) and the Plaza Francia viewpoint: a perfect spot to admire the 3.000 m of vertical ice and rock of the South Face.

Itinerary

Day 1
Mendoza – Los Penitentes (3 hs drive)
Pick up at the airport if needed (optional). The guide will check your gear and assist you with the Park’s trekking permit procedures. Transfer in private vehicles from Mendoza to Los Penitentes (2.580 m/8,465 ft), where the group will spend the night in a lodge. In this small mountain village we have our warehouse, where you can see the logistics of the full Aconcagua expeditions from inside.

Day 2
Los Penitentes – Confluencia Camp (3 to 4 hours hike)
After a short, 15 minutes drive to the trailhead, we complete the check-in and head towards Confluencia camp (3.390 m/11,300 ft). The trail is well marked and the slopes are gentle. We choose a good spot to have lunch in the trail. After a reception in Confluencia, we get to relax and talk with mountaineers from all over the world. Dinner in the dining tent and night in tents.

Day 3
Confluencia – South Face viewpoint – Confluencia (6 to 7 hours hike)
After breakfast, we leave with light backpacks and hike up the Horcones debris-covered glacier. As we gain altitude we get to see Aconcagua’s South Face, Mt. Almacenes, Mt. Mirador and other surrounding peaks. We reach a viewpoint at 4.050m / 13,290 ft, where we have lunch in the glacier and spend some time admiring the place. Then we retrace our steps to Confluencia camp. Big dinner to recover energies.

Day 4
Confluencia – Mendoza
After breakfast we say farewell to the leading guide and the summit-bound group, and head back to the trailhead (2 to 3 hours) with a guide. We met the transfer there and ride to Mendoza (3 hours), where we arrive at about 4-5 PM. End of the program.
